The West Midlands luxury car maker said it would be taking on new staff across the board and has new models on the way.

Sales of JLR cars were already up by nearly a third by the end of November to more than 324,000 – 50,000 more than its record-breaking performance for the whole of 2011. And December could add another 30,000.

Spokesman Nick O'Donnell said today: "We won't have our full year sales figures until later this month, but JLR has enjoyed considerable sales success in 2012 and we look to build on that success in 2013.

"We are going to do that by launching some key new vehicles such as the all-new Range Rover and the F-Type Jaguar, as well as developing other products.

"Looking to the future we will continue to invest in new products and a key part of that investment is our new engine manufacturing facility in the West Midlands, where construction is well under way.

"And in 2013 we will be looking forward to beginning the recruitment process for the first of the 750 people who will work at that new facility."

The new engine plant is being created on the i54 business park. Mr O'Donnell added: "JLR now employs nigh on 25,000 people and with this investment we will see those numbers increase in the years to come."

Production of the new ultra-fuel efficient four cylinder diesel and petrol engines at the i54 factory is now expected to start next year.
