More than 60 bikes worth thousands of pounds have been stolen from an historic shop in the run up to Christmas.

Thieves forced open the shutters at BD Price in High Holborn, Sedgley.

The bikes were for all ages and the majority were still in their boxes, police said. It was not clear today whether they were destined to be Christmas presents.

Sergeant Rob Simpson, who covers Sedgley town centre, said: "BD Price is a very familiar name to everyone in Sedgley as the store has been open for more than 100 years. It is shocking to think that someone has so callously raided the business in what should be their busiest week of the year."

Police are now on the lookout for the bikes and are asking people to get in touch if they think they may have been offered one for sale.

The stolen bikes range from Mongoose BMXs to Wethepeople mountain bikes.

Sgt Simpson said: "I know it may be tempting to anyone who is offered a bike for sale at a discounted rate but we would urge anyone who may know of anything to alert police so that we can trace the goods and find those responsible." Call police on 101.
