The 27-year-old man from Dudley was rushed to hospital following the smash on Birmingham New Road in Coseley but died shortly after.

The road was closed in both directions between Shaw Road and Silver Jubilee Park from about 2pm yesterday. The crash happened at the crossroads junction with Ivyhouse Lane, near the BP garage and McDonalds.

Police say the motorcyclist had suffered serious injuries after hitting a van on the Wolverhampton-bound carriageway. He was in cardiac arrest when emergency services arrived.

He was taken to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He was confirmed dead shortly after arriving at hospital.

Drivers faced long queues stretching towards Dudley and Wolverhampton during rush hour.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision, or who may have information to help the police investigation is urged to call 101.

Meanwhile, an 11-year-old boy was today recovering in hospital after being hit by a car in Hednesford.

The boy was taken to the University of North Staffordshire following the incident at around 8.15am yesterday. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. An ambulance and police car were at the scene by the junction of Edison Close and Bradbury Lane.
