They got a hug from a Wolves player and a sore head when they invaded the pitch at Molineux last month.

Friends Jonathan Cable, aged 21, and Joshua O'Neil, 20, both pleaded guilty at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court yesterday to going onto a playing area at a football match. It happened during the Wolves v Barnsley match on August 21, which the home side won 3-1.

Cable, of Bradford Street, Shifnal, evaded stewards in running onto the field before high-fiving and hugging right-back Ronald Zubar.

O'Neil, of Lambeth Drive in Priorslee, Telford, then followed his friend but slipped and fell head-first into advertising hoardings.

Harmail Gill, defending the pair, said they were in a celebratory mood as it was a rare victory for the team.

Wolves hadn't won at Molineux since December 4.

District Judge Michael Wheeler ordered them to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge each. Cable was fined £65 and O'Neil £125. Wolves confirmed both men had been indefinitely banned from Molineux.
