Opening of new Cannock swimming pool postponed due to fault

The long-awaited opening of a new swimming pool in Cannock has been delayed due to a technical problem. A problem over tiling has been blamed.
The hi-tech pool at Chase Leisure Centre was scheduled to open on August 8 to coincide with the Olympics.
But a problem has emerged over the tiling used in the new six-lane, 25-metre competition-standard baths and it will remain closed until September.
Council bosses would not reveal the exact nature of the fault but said it came to light when the pool was filled for the first time two weeks ago.
Council leader George Adamson said: "The delay is unavoidable.
"It's unfortunate but the most important thing is that the pool is safe when it is reopened."
The hold-up means the new baths will be closed over the summer holidays and will miss the London Games tie-in.
The new pool is part of the £6.5 million revamp of the leisure centre on the A34 Stafford Road.
Boasting a 200-seat spectator gallery, it is the jewel in the crown of the transformation, with a moveable floor that can be raised or lowered to create different depths.
The council says it is fine when filled with cold water, it was only when heated that the flaw emerged.
