Workmen were arriving to begin pulling down the Residual Brand Management warehouse in Ettingshall, Wolverhampton, which was gutted in the blaze.
The fire spread to a neighbouring warehouse, Tile Choice, destroying £800,000 worth of stock. It will also have to be demolished. Police say the fire was started by two people seen running from the scene.
The Millfields Road unit contained aerosols, paints, oils and detergents, and there are pollution fears as chemicals escape into the nearby River Tame.
Oxygen has been pumped into the water by the Environment Agency to save fish stocks.
Millfields Road and Ward Street were closed this morning while crews continued to damp down the fire. Small pockets of fire were still being reported.
