The accident happened at around 12.30pm on the northbound carriageway between Junction 10a for the M54 and Junction 11 for Cannock.

Two lanes were closed while police and fire crews cleared the scene.

Firefighters from Willenhall, Wednesbury and Bloxwich and the specialist rescue team from Stafford were called as well as West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics.

Ambulance spokesman John Hawker said one patient, believed to be the car's driver, suffered injuries not thought to be life-threatening. They was being taken to Walsall Manor Hospital at 1.30pm.

Meanwhile a dog had to be rescued off the M6 at Junction 7 Great Barr earlier today.
