A cyclist was in a serious condition in New Cross Hospital this afternoon following an attempted robbery in Wolverhampton.

The 32-year-old suffered head injuries after being knocked off his bike outside the Goodyear Pavilion on Stafford Road between 11pm and midnight last night.

He had been cycling home when he was approached by a man and attacked.

At the same time a car drove slowly past and detectives believe this may have caused the robber to flee empty-handed.
