Wolves today resorted to sending out 20 men with A-boards in an attempt to sell tickets for this month's derby clash against Aston Villa at Molineux.

The club has copied a stunt by Domino's Pizza earlier this summer which saw scores of students wearing giant red and blue pizza boxes positioned on busy junctions across the city.

Agency staff were today employed by Wolves to stand on the same junctions in an attempt to catch the eye of fans driving by. The Premier League game takes place on September 26.

The capacity at Molineux is 29,400. The club today said there were 2,000 tickets still available for home supporters for the game which is being shown live on Sky Sports.

Neither home games held at Molineux so far this season have sold out.

Wolves spokesman Matt Grayson told of how the A-board stunt was all part of a new marketing campaign to sell tickets and promote club offers.

Mr Grayson denied it had anything to do with poor ticket sales for the Villa game.

He said: "We are currently trialling this approach and we'll have to see how it goes. It's part of our campaign to increase awareness about club offers.

"It's not simply a push on tickets. A lot of our supporters tell us they don't always know about ticket availability."

Mr Grayson added there were around 20 people wearing sandwich boards across the city, in various locations such as Birmingham New Road and Tettenhall Road, advertising tickets for the game.

They will be there until Thursday.

Villa supporter Matthew Jackson, aged 26, of Coppice Road, Walsall Wood, was stood on the side of Tettenhall Road.

Mr Jackson works for agency Extra Personnel.

He said: "We are doing three lots of eight hour shifts. We start at 8am and finish at 5pm.

"We've been getting quite a few funny looks from people driving by."

Matt Carey, 28, of Arthur Road, Tipton, added: "It's a bit boring but we've been getting some laughs from drivers going past."
