A lorry and a 4x4 crashed at a busy Black Country crossroads today causing traffic chaos.

Witnesses described hearing a "huge bang" when a Sainsbury's lorry and a Range Rover crashed at Glasshouse Hill at the junction of Hagley Road, Oldswinford, Stourbridge.

The male driver was trapped for 30 minutes following the accident about 11.45am.

He was put on a spinal board and flown to hospital by air ambulance and his condition is not known. Passers-by went to the driver's aid including an off duty nurse.

The lorry driver was unhurt but shaken.

Shop worker Glenn Rushton, aged 22, of 19th Century Interiors, in Hagley Road, said: "We heard a huge bang which shook the shop and we went outside and saw the Range Rover smashed in the middle of the road."

The front of the Range Rover had caved in and its front bumper and a tyre were scattered across the junction and a traffic bollard was also knocked down

Police sealed off the crossroads in all directions and traffic was backing up on to Stourbridge ring road and along Heath Lane towards Mary Stevens Park.
