A 25-year-old woman from Cannock was on her way to Stafford Hospital to give birth when they had to pull over at the Seven Stars pub car park in Brocton just after 9pm.

The baby's dad called for the ambulance and a healthy baby boy was born 20 minutes later.

Emergency medical technician Sue Pearce said: "It was a very quick delivery. When we arrived mum was wanting to push.

"With a crowd gathering, we got mum and dad on to the ambulance for a bit of privacy.

"We took them the last stretch of the way to Stafford Hospital for further checks but both mum and baby are doing well.

"This is only my second delivery but my crew mate, paramedic Patrick Griffin, has delivered quite a few babies but it's the first time either of us have delivered one in a pub car park.

"I'm sure the locals will have been raising a glass in the young man's honour."
