Five fun half-term ideas for young children:

Walsall Illuminations

From now until November 2 you can catch the magical illuminations at Walsall Arboretum. This year it's packed with a host of childrens' favourite characters from television including Bob the Builder, SpongeBob SquarePants, Peppa Pig and Angelina Ballerina.

The Selfish Giant

Sea Legs Puppet Theatre tell Oscar Wilde's enchanting story about a lonely giant who builds a wall to keep children out of his garden. The play is told using beautifully crafted puppets, storytelling and music, for ages 4 and over. Showing at 1.30pm on October 30 at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre.

Halloween Workshop

Wolverhampton Art Gallery are holding a free workshop where children can make their own witch and wizard hats and listen to ghost stories. The workshop takes place on October 31 from 11am to 1pm.

The Jungle Book

The Birmingham Stage Company perform Rudyard Kipling's classic tale about a young boy who is raised in the jungle by a family of wolves. Performances take place at various times between November 4 and 8. Suitable for ages 5 +.

Pumpkin Weekend

This fun weekend, which takes place October 25 and 26 at Moseley Old Hall in Fordhouses, gives children the chance to see a giant pumpkin, watch a carving competition and take part in a whole variety of Halloween activities, from 12 noon to 4pm each day.

Five fun half-term ideas for children aged 6 - 10:

The Big Draw

Wolverhampton Art Gallery is offering a chance for all the family to explore their creative talents in this nationwide campaign for budding artists. The event takes place from 11am to 1pm, from October 27 to November 1.

Half Term Halloween Activities

The Black Country Living Museum is hosting a week of chills and thrills as visitors can share ghost stories and take part in Halloween-themed activities. Workshops run between 10am and 4pm and take place from October 25 to November 2.

Igor (PG)

Cineworld at Bentley Bridge Leisure Park in Wednesfield is showing 'Igor', an animated film about the hunchbacked servant of a mad scientist who dreams of winning the annual Evil Science Competition, featuring the voices of John Cleese and Eddie Izzard. Showing every day at selected times.

Bonfire & Fireworks Display

Come along and watch a children's firework display followed by the spectacular main display and a funfair along with plenty of food and drink, in Wolverhampton's West Park. Starts at 5.30pm, November 1.

The Dudley Ghost Tour

Take a family walk around Dudley Zoo and Castle, where children can learn about all the ghostly happenings that have taken place near by. The walks run from Monday to Friday between 8am and 7.30pm, and on weekends from 9am to 12 noon, on the following dates: October 15, 16, 22 and 23, November 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20.

Ten fun half-term ideas for older children:

Home Of Metal

A must for metal fans, this exciting workshop at Wolverhampton Art Gallery gives visitors the chance to help to create the first ever digital archive of Metal Music and its origins in the Black Country. The event takes place on October 25 from 10am to 4.30pm.

High School Musical 3 (PG)

The third installment of this popular movie sees Troy and Gabriella enter their senior year and face the prospect of separation as they head off to different colleges. Showing at various times at Cineworld, Bentley Bridge Leisure Park.

James Bond Event

As a special treat for 007 fans, there will be a day full of Bond-related treats at the Wulfrun Shopping Centre in Wolverhampton, on October 25 from 11am.

Eerie Evenings at Dudley Castle

This is a unique overnight event where guests can visit one of the most haunted castles in the country on October 31 and take part in a genuine ghost hunt. Tickets are expected to sell quickly so early booking is advisable. Ages 16 + (under 18's must be accompanied by an adult).

Annie Twist

The Prince of Wales Youth Theatre will be performing a blend of two well-loved musicals, Annie and Oliver Twist, at the Prince of Wales Centre in Cannock. The show takes place on October 30 and 31 at 7.30pm.

Bonfire, Firework and Laser Display

Come along and watch a spectacular display of fireworks at Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich, on November 1 from 5.30pm. For further details call 0845 358 2200.

National Sea Life Centre

The Sea Life Centre in Brindley Place, Birmingham, is a fantastic day out for all the family. The centre displays over 60 marine inhabitants from sharks and stingrays to turtles and jellyfish. Check the website for opening times.

House Bunny (12A)

Cineworld at Bentley Bridge is showcasing this new teen comedy about Shelley, a Playboy bunny who leaves the mansion and heads into the great unknown, landing a position as a sorority house mother along the way. Showing at 11.50am, 2.15pm, 4.35pm, 6.55pm and 9.15pm.

Conservation Work Day

This opportunity to get outdoors and help park rangers with the conservation of Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham takes place on November 2 between 11am and 1.30pm.

Thinktank Museum of Science and Discovery

This event features hands-on exhibits in ten themed sections, where visitors can find out what it's like to become a TV reporter, learn how to track tigers in the wild or take controls of a digger! Thinktank is open from Monday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm (last admission at 4pm).
