More than 600 people have applied for 40 part-time jobs at a new Wolverhampton city centre nightspot, bosses announced today.

It comes after bosses of Indi Bar revealed its grand opening had been put back after its refurbishment was hit with delays.

The bar is being created to transform the former Rothwells pub, on the corner of Princess Street and Lichfield Street, which has remained derelict for more than a year.

Bosses began a recruitment drive in the summer, advertising posts for managers, assistant managers, chefs, promotions staff and bar staff. And today it emerged that the response had been overwhelming.

General manager Sarah Leddington said: "The response has been superb. We had more than 600 initial inquiries and the recruitment process is ongoing."

Wolverhampton City Council's regeneration boss Councillor Paddy Bradley added that the development would boost both the daytime and night-time economy.

Indi Bar had been due to open next Thursday but the launch has been put back to November 5.
