Not quite Gotham or Metropolis, but Bilston has its own Batman and Superman as the cape crusaders roam parts of the West Midlands.

But fear not, the fictional heroes will soon be broken up - quite literally - as their sugary coating is consumed by ardent decorating fans.

The pair of six-feet creations are the brainchild of the talented Rose Macefield, a cake artist and international sugarcraft decoration judge gearing up for this weekend's Cake International at the NEC, Birmingham.

The superheroes dwarf Rose

Rose, 42, owns her own cake decorating shop 'Rose Marie's Cakes and Sugarcraft' as well as leading tutorials on the art and having a first baking book ready for launch.

And remarkably, it was not until 2007 that she began in the art of sugarcraft and decorated her first cake.

It has been a rapid rise in the industry for Rose, whose shop in Coseley is proving successful.

Her previous creations are the likes of Dobby the House Elf from Harry Potter, a Tyrannosaurus Rex's head and countless intricate animal designs of of all colours, shapes and sizes.

She said: "I've enjoyed working on them but they've definitely worn me out!

"It's a bit strange to have six foot superheroes in your garage.

"I like creating people and animals, it's bringing the realistic effect to them that gets me going."

While Batman and Superman - chosen with the upcoming film hitting cinema screens - will be a feature of this weekend's decorating action, Rose will also have her judging eye switched on ahead of marking other efforts.

After winning 'Best in Show' at the 2013 competition, she decided to step us as an official.

Not content with how far she has come, Rose revealed that her new book, 'Sensational Sculpted Cakes' is just the start on her new-found business adventure.

"There won't be any other six-foot figures standing freely so hopefully they'll be quite an attraction and generated interest in my book," she added.

"But what I really want to do is start online tutorial video sessions.

"It so much more accessible and better value for money as classes aren't cheap.

"So I'm looking for my third base in four years - the business is just growing that much!"
