WATCH: Male voice choir prepares to raise the roof

A male voice choir is preparing to raise the roof as it stages its first concerts of the year led by its new musical director.

Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir is performing two shows in Wordsley and Dudley next month.

The Kingswinford-based choir will be led by Margaret Jones as musical director for the first time.

Choir members will share the stage with the Derbyshire-based Melbourne Male Voice Choir on March 5.

Both choirs are performing at Holy Trinity Church, in Wordsley high street, from 7.30pm.

The choirs each perform their own pieces before coming together for the crescendo of the concert.

Former Gentlemen Songsters choir singer John Smallwood who is now part of the Melbourne group helped establish the concert.

Tickets are priced two for £5.

Gentlemen Songsters will also be returning to perform its annual spring concert at Dudley Town Hall later in the month.

The group is to be accompanied by the band of the Royal Corp of Signals based at RAF Cosford on the night.

Midlands writer and storyteller John Edgar is compare for the evening.

Cash raised from the concert will be donated to the Mayor of Dudley's charities and the Corps of Army Music Trust.

Tickets cost for the Dudley Town Hall show are priced £15.

Gentlemen Songsters spokesman Mike Green said the group members were hoping to start the new year with a bang.

"I really hope that local people are going t support us and also welcome the choir from Derby and the Royal Corps of Signals," he said.

"There is great camaraderie between us all.

"It is great when you get a good audience for a show."

The group have raised thousands of pounds for good causes over the years.

In 2015 alone the gentlemen Songsters brought in around £8,000 for charity.

The choir has also performed with stars including singer Aled Jones and also led the borough's annual Remembrance Concert commemorations.
