Jeffrey Spittle met his future wife Hazel when they both attended Dormston School in Sedgley.

They lost touch after Mr Spittle went into the Royal Air Force for his National Service in 1951, but in 1953, after he had been demobbed the couple met up again on a night out at a dance hall in Upper Gornal.

The couple, who now live in Quarry Brow, Upper Gornal, were married at the Congregational Church, in Bilston Street, Sedgley, on April 2, 1955.

And 60 years later the couple have celebrated their landmark anniversary.

Mr Spittle said the secret of a successful marriage was to never go to bed on an argument.

"We first met when we were at school and palled up," he said. "We met up for the second time at the dance and it all stemmed from there."

The couple have two sons Gary and Peter. They also have three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr Spittle, now 82, worked as an inspection manager at Fafnir Bearings in Wolverhampton for more than 30 years before having to retire due to ill health.

His wife, also 82, had a number of jobs but her favourite was working as a sewing machinist when she left school.

The couple will celebrate the anniversary with a family party.
