Robert Farmer tied the knot with his bride-to-be Margaret on her 20th birthday - and 60 years on, the couple say they are as happy as ever.

While the couple, aged 82 and 80 respectively, say the secret to their success has been a little give and take, Mrs Farmer advises a kiss and cuddle each day to keep the love tank topped up.

Mr Farmer was raised in Audnam, near Wordsley, while Mrs Farmer was raised in the the same house the couple live in today in Wordsley.

While growing up, he attended Audnum Secondary Modern School while his bride went to Lawnswood Secondary School.

After leaving school, Mr Farmer initially worked at Webb Corbett glassworks, in Amblecote, as a glass decorator.

Margaret joined nearby Stuart Crystal glassworks as a product finishing inspector - a job she held for 51 years.

And it was the glassworks that brought the couple together as their eyes first met while they visited Stuart Crystal Athletic Club, which was part of the site, in 1951.

Mr Farmer was a talented footballer and had been offered a trial at Portsmouth but those plans, alongside the couple's early romance were halted as he was called up to serve national service.

He was in the RAF between 1950 and 1953 working as an engineer and was stationed in Egypt.

After his service the pair rekindled their romance and were married at Holy Trinity Church, in Wordsley, on December 4, 1954.

The couple have three children, Jayne, 54, Diane, 50 and 46-year-old David, six grand children and five great-grand children.

Over the years, the couple have been keen sequence and ballroom dancers and still take to the floor four times a week.

They keep themselves active with Mr farmer a keen walker and cyclist while his wife goes to a nearby gym once a week.

Mrs Farmer celebrated her 80th birthday alongside the couple's 60th wedding anniversary with a special family party at Dunsley Hall Hotel, in Kinver.
