The electricity was also switched on at Bronze Cricket Club after it attracted a £40,000 Sport England grant to improve the lighting and heating at the site, near Walsall.

Former club chairman Bert Chambers died aged 63 in November. He was father to twins Adam and James Chambers, aged 33, who both play for Walsall and used to represent West Bromwich Albion.

The event on Sunday included a junior match between Bronze under-10s and Aldridge under-10s before a Bronze XI side faced Pelsall Cricket Club in a T20 memorial match.

A new wooden bench was unveiled at the clubhouse, along with a special corner dedicated to Mr Chambers. Bronze's social secretary Dave Wood said: "It is a nice way to remember him and the contribution he made."

Mr Chambers would regularly attend football matches to see his sons play and was a Wolves fan.

They were the first twins to play for Albion and the first twins to play in the same side for any club in the Premier League.

A bucket collection was held during the day and all proceeds will go to the British Heart Foundation, the charity chosen by his family.

The bench was donated by the club and by Holy Name Football Club, with which Mr Chambers was also involved.
