James Baxendale, Ben Purkiss and James and Adam Chambers also took part in a question and answer session at the end of their public work-out on the pitch.

Dean Smith said the open days worked in favour of the club as well as the fans.

"Today having the kids here makes them want to come more, having their photos taken and getting autographs from the players they see as their heroes.

"It makes them want to keep comig and the continuity we've had with players here, the likes of Andy Butler and Adam Chambers, players who have been here for a few years now helps the fans relate to them as well." It was the second time Walsall has hosted the open training event .
