The Willenhall-based £1-for-everything chain said it needed to recruit so many temporary workers because it was dealing with a growing number of customers – currently around 4.8 million pass through its store tills every week.

The company, which also operated a major depot in Bilston and employs around 750 across the two sites, said the Christmas sales assistants jobs would be available in most of its 493 stores in the UK and Ireland, where it operates as Dealz.

The company said it was creating an additional 160 temporary store jobs in Ireland.
