Work to create a £60 million Tesco superstore in Wolverhampton city centre will begin in November, the store giant announced today.

The long-awaited building project is expected to take at least 12 months, with bosses aiming to open the doors of the 97,000 sq ft store by spring 2014.

The store will transform the landmark former Royal Hospital site and create about 600 jobs.

It will be created following a decade-long planning battle with rival Sainsbury's.
