Sorry, no change! Fed-up shopkeeper Jack bans banknotes for small purchases
A shopkeeper has sparked outrage after refusing to serve customers who want to use a banknote to pay for anything less than £1.
Jack Randhawa is so fed up with people buying small items with notes just so they can get change for the bus and ticket machines he has decided to stop accepting banknotes for any products less than £1.
The 33-year-old, who runs Jack's News & Booze, a convenience shop in Halesowen, claims around 100 people every day used him to get change for bus stops and car parks.
But in September, he stuck up a notice on the shop's door, which reads: "Urgent customer notice: Minimum spend of £1 when paying with notes! Change will not be given under any circumstance unless spending over £1." Yesterday he said: "I have finally taken action. I am running a shop, not a bank."
Customer administrative assistant Ron Waverley, 38, said: "I don't think it could have been that infuriating or damaging to business for him.
"It has certainly annoyed me and I know a few others aren't happy too. He can't just refuse to serve us, can he?"
