Thousands turn out for Molineux jobs fair
More than 2,000 attended a jobs fair in Wolverhampton, with people queueing for hours to get a look at the jobs on offer.
Thousands of job hunters visited Molineux yesterday morning for the jobs fair, which had scores of employers offering jobs and training courses.
Queues snaked around Molineux from 8.30am on as thousands of people jumped at the chance to apply for jobs at employers such as National Express, McDonalds and Sainsbury's.
Angela Hoyle, a co-ordinator at the event, said she was pleased with the turn out.
Mrs Hoyle said: "We are really pleased with the footfall and all the employers have been very positive about the event.
"It is all about getting local jobs for local people. We hold these twice a year, and at the last one we had in September there was probably 1,200 people there.
"So to have more than 2,000 this year is great. We are very thankful to the employers who have come here and backed this.
"People were queueing up from 8.30am and there were still queues at 11am so it has been very busy."
One of the employers at the day were Sainsbury's, who were recruiting for the 340 extra jobs created by their new multi-million pound store in Raglan Street.
Daniel Udenkwo, a student at City of Wolverhampton College, was one of the people looking at the opportunities on offer at the new store.
The 19-year-old said: "I'm currently studying business at college full-time, so I am looking for part-time jobs, but if a full-time job came up I would try to juggle it.
"I mainly came here because it is an interesting experience to see what jobs are on offer. If something comes up then that would be great."
Ian Sole, a department manager at Sainsbury's, was on hand to chat to prospective employees.
He said: "We do all of our recruitment on our website so we have been pointing people in the direction of the website.
"But we have been talking to people about the different type of jobs we offer.
"A lot of people don't realise the different sorts of jobs we have, so the feedback from them has been very good."
Also at the fair was 24-year-old Musaddiq Nabi, from Warstones.
He said: "I've come here because I'm looking for a job in IT so hopefully I will be able to find something.
"It is pretty busy and there are lots of stalls so hopefully I will be able to get a few job interviews and maybe a job out of it."
