Aldersley students cycle to Paris and raise over £1,500 for Dementia UK
Students at Aldersley High School pedalled their way to France on Friday, completing a massive virtual cycle challenge from Wolverhampton all the way to Parc des Princes, the home of Paris Saint-Germain.
The ambitious effort by the PSG Rising Stars was live-streamed to thousands and succeeded in smashing their fundraising target, raising a brilliant £1,590 for Dementia UK thanks to the support of the local community and high-profile visitors.
The students' determination, teamwork, and commitment didn't just smash their fundraising goal, they captured the attention of the community with over 16,000 views on our Facebook page on the day. This ambitious virtual ride was undertaken by students in Years 7 to 10 who are part of the school's Rising Stars Programme, created in partnership with PSG Academy West Midlands. This 30-week journey is all about building leadership, resilience, and personal growth. To help them along the way, each participant is paired with a Sixth Form mentor from Amethyst Sixth Form's football academy, offering consistent support and challenge to build confidence and aspiration.

The atmosphere on the day was electric. Students took turns cycling the entire distance to the Parc des Princes, the home of Paris Saint-Germain, with incredible support from staff and the wider community. It was a true display of unity and ambitious spirit. The students were delighted to welcome several special guests. Councillor Craig Collingswood, the Mayor of Wolverhampton, attended to congratulate the students on their monumental effort. They were also joined by event ambassador Andy Pearce, whose encouragement added to the special occasion.

One of the highlights was the arrival of Manny Singh Kang, a Pride of Britain award winner and Lead Ambassador for the Rising Stars Programme. Manny hopped on the bike himself and offered powerful, motivating words that truly inspired the young cyclists. Alex Harrap, Managing Director of PSG Academy England, also visited the school to show his support and connect with the students leading the charge. Headteacher Mr Blower was determined to get involved, completing a challenging hour-long cycle to show solidarity with the team.

This challenge was a fundraiser for Dementia UK and a powerful celebration of student voice, leadership, and pure perseverance. The Rising Stars have proven what can be achieved when young people are trusted to lead, supported to grow, and given a platform to make a real difference. The whole of Aldersley High School and its community can take immense pride in their achievement.
