The five-star housebuilder gave the school 35 reflective vests for its pupils to wear whilst walking down busy streets, ensuring they can be easily seen on the roads when visibility is reduced on darker evenings.

Road Safety Week is an awareness campaign that is organised by Brake. Every year, more than 1,700 people die on UK roads, and another 30,000 receive serious, life-changing injuries. Brake works tirelessly to reduce that number and make sure that travel is as safe as possible.

Jack Kinsey, Head of School at Newstead Primary Academy, said: “We are most grateful to receive 35 reflective vests for our children to use. Most of our children at school walk to and from school, and with the darker nights approaching, we thank Barratt Homes for their generosity.”

Newstead Primary Academy is situated near the Waterside development in Trentham, and the donation of hi-vis vests is another part of Barratt Homes’ outreach to the local community.

Alan Watt, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We want to ensure the children in the local community remain visible and safe when walking to and from school, and our donation will hopefully help the pupils when they are on school excursions, too.

“We actively support school pupils at this time of year as we endeavour to help their efforts to commute on foot, and the vests have proven to be both effective and practical.”

Barratt Homes’ hi-vis vests will be useful all year round and are certain to benefit the pupils in their future journeys to and from school.
