'So impressive': Jonny Drury's West Brom player ratings v Blackburn as trio shine in opener
Jonny Drury rates the West Brom players after their narrow opening day victory over Blackburn Rovers.
Isaac Price's first half goal was enough to separate the two sides - in what ended up being a tight affair.
Albion edged the better chances in the game with Blackburn hardly testing Josh Griffiths in the Albion goal.
Here are how the players rated:
Josh Griffiths
For the first half hour he hardly touched the ball. He was called upon with a big save soon after - but despite late pressure from Blackburn, Griffiths was not really called upon, but did his job when he had to.
Save 7
Darnell Furlong
For the first time in a long time, his bullet long throw turned into a goal and the matchwinner. Good in the first half, before becoming a bit slack in the second. Booked for a stupid foul and it came to bite him with a late second.
Mixed 6
Nat Phillips
One of a few big stories from the day. The summer signing headed everything, tackled everything and was just a rock at the back. Late on they had to with stand pressure and Phillips led the back line. If Heggem goes, there should be comfort knowing they have Phillips.
Dominant 8
Torbjorn Heggem
Steady and calm in the first half, although he got caught for the penalty shout which has divided opinion. In the second, did his job but miscommunication with Griffiths when the keeper came to collect could have proved costly.
