Toilet paper company rolls out plan to extend premises in Fordhouses
A company in Wolverhampton that manufactures kitchen and toilet roll is looking to extend its premises by demolishing a neighbouring warehouse to create space.
Task Consumer Products has asked for planning permission to knock down the adjacent industrial property formerly occupied by automotive manufacturer Fablink. Both premises are located on Stafford Road, Fordhouses.
Established in 2007, Task is a family-owned company and one of the largest independent paper converters in the UK with a manufacturing capacity in excess of 100,000 tonnes per annum.
In a statement submitted by applicants Stoford Properties, planning director Jo Russell said: “We are working with manufacturers Task to bring forward proposals for their site, which includes redeveloping land adjacent to their current facility where a warehouse formerly occupied by Fablink is located.
“Whilst the planning application for the factory extension and new facility is being prepared, we are keen to demolish the former Fablink premises as early as possible to enable Task’s programme for future occupation of their new buildings to be maintained.
“This will also ensure that once planning permission for the redevelopment is secured, works can commence more swiftly, with the former Fablink building no longer obstructing the site.
"Therefore, we are submitting this application to seek prior approval for the demolition of the building.
“Demolition work will be undertaken by a specialist contractor and Stoford will manage this appointment and maintain full communication with Task, who will remain operational from their current premises. The existing trees at the site will be retained."
The appointed contractor will be responsible for the disposal of waste products arising from the demolition work.
Metals are to be taken off-site and recycled, and masonry and concrete will be crushed on-site and used within the new modern warehouse development.
Bosses at Task are hoping to begin demolishing the warehouse on Wednesday, November 1, and finish on Wednesday, January 31, with work taking place Monday to Friday, 7am until 6pm.
Planners are due to make a decision on the application in the near future.
