The orange chip is something unique to the region

Today is National Fish and Chip Day as we celebrate those who help produce the nation’s favourite takeaway.

The day – held every June 2 – celebrates everyone involved in creating the iconic British dish; from fish and chip shops, pub chains, restaurants, retailers, to the fishermen and farmers who provide the sustainable and natural ingredients.

UK Fisheries said that British consumers eat approximately 382 million meals from fish and chip shops every year, including 167 million portions of fish and chips, the traditional favourite, including dozens across the region.

But one thing that makes the chip shops of the Black Country stand out is the popularity of orange chips. And many shops claiming to have the best orange chips around.

Among them are The Major Fish Restaurant in Church Street, Bilston, Sofi’s Plaice in Castle Street, Dudley and the Black Country Chippy in Great Bridge, Tipton.
