Two arrests after stolen car spotted 40 miles away in Lichfield was then driven to Walsall

Two people have been arrested after a stolen car was spotted in Lichfield 40 miles from where it was snatched.

The black BMW which was stolen from Solihull was seen by Staffordshire Police officers in the Lichfield area with cloned number plates.

The officers travelling in an unmarked patrol car followed the vehicle to Bloxwich near Walsall where they pulled it over and spoke to the occupants.

The road crime team posted on X: "@StaffsRCT A cloned BMW was spotted in the Lichfield area by one of our unmarked patrols.  The BMW was followed into the Bloxwich area where it was stopped using tactics to prevent a pursuit.

"It turns out the BMW was stolen from Solihull a few days ago. The occupants are now assisting West Midlands Police."

The pair have been helping West Midlands Police with its inquiries in the theft after the Staffordshire force handed over the matter. The forces have been taking part in Operation Lightning, an initiative to crackdown on motor crime in the region.
