Fire breaks out at an electricity sub station in Lower Gornal

A fire in an electric cable box in Lower Gornal has seen businesses and residential customers affected

The fire broke out in the unit at Ruiton Street Road, Lower Gornal on the Five Ways island at around 9am today (Sunday).

West Midlands Fire (WMF) sent a crew from Dudley to  deal with the fire and make the area safe and they used specialist equipment from Wednesbury Fire Station to get into the box.

A WMF spokesman said: "We arrived on scene at around 9.15am after reports of the fire, which was quickly dealt with using specialist equipment from our colleagues at the Wednesbury station.

"We made the scene safe and left at around 11am - we understand staff from National Grid are on site to assess the damage and  deal with any outages of electric in the area."

A spokesman said: "We are aware of this power cut outage which was raised at 9:24am this morning and our engineers are working to get the power returned as quickly as possible. We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you.
