Drugs and guns seized from properties in Birmingham after police operation

Police say they have taken several firearms off the streets of Birmingham and made 'significant' arrests including for drugs offences.

Officers from West Midlands Police's Major Crime Team carried out searches at an address in St Benedict's Road, Small Heath on Saturday under Operation Target where they found a live firearm and suspected Class B drugs, as well as a locking knife.

The gun was a converted blank-firer with three rounds of live ammunition ready to be fired.

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited firearm.

He remains in custody today while enquiries continue.

Elsewhere, a warrant was carried out on Friday in Woodman Walk, Witton  and two men were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Officers searched a property and found suspected Class A drugs as well as a live firearm and several rounds of ammunition.

A large amount of cannabis and other drug-related material was also found and is being examined.

The two men arrested have been bailed while enquiries continue.
