Starting Point Recruitment (SPR) landed 120 people in work in October, on the back of 140 in September, despite bleak market conditions and fears of further bad news for business in the Government’s upcoming Autumn Statement as Chancellor Rachel Reeves seeks to close a fiscal gap of up to £50bn.

SPR, which has bases in Birmingham and Walsall, credited its recent run of form to its recruitment consultants building trust with clients and offering business-growth assistance that goes far beyond simply finding the right people for the right roles.

Jayshree Patel, a general recruitment consultant for SPR, said: “Big organisations across the West Midlands region are increasingly wanting to work with us because we give them a high-quality, personalised experience.

“As well as helping them hire great talent, we see the bigger picture, connecting our clients with opportunities that will help grow their business and, in turn, help us grow ours.”

Alex Devlin, an IT recruitment consultant for SPR specialising in large migration projects and digital transformation, said: “With Birmingham and the West Midlands currently a fast-growing tech market, SPR is helping deliver social value and long-term impact.

“Building strong personal relationships with our clients, based on honesty, loyalty and integrity, is key to how we do business. Unless that trust exists we cannot deliver but, as our ongoing results show, we are building that trust and we are delivering month in month out.”

Prof Paul Cadman, chief executive of SPR and of the One Thousand Trades Group (OTTG), said: “At SPR we look at the person, not just their CV, when deciding who is suitable for a role. We take a big-picture approach with clients looking to hire, too.

“If they want introductions in certain sectors, strategic advice, help staging events or shaping their public message, whatever it is they need, we tap into our network of connections across the OTTG to give our clients the help they need.

“We do this because it’s the right thing to do, but we also know that the more success our clients have, the more business they are likely to put our way in future.

"Despite current doom and gloom, the economic fundamentals of Birmingham and the West Midlands remain strong – including, notably, in the growth sectors of life sciences, tech, sports and creative arts.”

As well as SPR, the OTTG includes Walk Through Walls, the political engagement and PR agency; the Technology Supply Chain, a 5,000-member networking organisation; and Life Sciences Week, the annual event gathering together leaders in the biotech and med tech sector.
