World-renowned sitar maestro Baluji Shrivastav OBE to perform at Staffordshire fun day
Internationally acclaimed musician and composer Baluji Shrivastav OBE will bring the captivating sounds of classical Indian music to the Sensasian Family Fun Day at the New Vic Theatre on Saturday, 26 July. The performance is part of a full day of free, family-friendly cultural activities celebrating South Asian heritage.
Baluji’s set will showcase the expressive depth of the sitar and introduce audiences to the rich musical traditions of the Indian subcontinent.
Described by the Evening Standard as "sitarist to the stars," Baluji Shrivastav OBE is one of the world’s leading composers and instrumentalists. Born blind in Uttar Pradesh, India, Baluji’s remarkable journey through music has seen him collaborate with global icons including Stevie Wonder, Coldplay, Massive Attack, Shakira, and Madness. His work spans classical, jazz, world music, and film composition — with credits including Disney’s Million Dollar Arm, NBC’s Outsourced, and the Urdu opera Sohini and Mahival, co-composed with Oscar-winner Dario Marianelli.

Baluji is also the founder of the Inner Vision Orchestra, the UK’s only professional ensemble of blind musicians, underlining his lifelong commitment to inclusive arts and cultural accessibility.
The Sensasian Family Fun Day begins at 12 noon and includes a vibrant programme of performances, dance workshops, music, film, and henna painting, developed in collaboration with local South Asian communities. All events are free and open to the public.
