Dudley school celebrates Green Flag award
Eco Excellence at Beechwood CE Primary School recognised with National Awards Beechwood CE Primary School, based in Dudley, is celebrating a remarkable achievement after being awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction and the Royal Horticultural Society Level 5 School Gardening Award for its outstanding environmental efforts.
The awards mark a significant milestone in the school’s journey to become a beacon of sustainability and environmental education. Pupils, staff, and the wider community have worked tirelessly to enhance biodiversity on the school grounds while promoting eco-awareness both within the classroom and beyond.
Over the past year, pupils have played a central role in driving the school’s environmental agenda through the leadership of a dedicated team of students known as the Eco Bears. These young eco-champions have encouraged their peers to become more environmentally conscious, leading initiatives such as wildlife habitat creation, sustainable gardening, and community engagement projects.
Paul Arnold, the school’s Site Manager and a key supporter of the eco team, praised the pupils' efforts: “The pupils have been truly inspiring this year. Their dedication, leadership, and teamwork are the driving force behind these fantastic achievements.”
Headteacher Sophie Blick also shared her pride in the school’s success, saying: "We are incredibly proud of our children and staff for their commitment to environmental education and action. These awards are a testament to their hard work and passion. Our goal is not just to teach children about the environment but to empower them to make a real difference — both now and in the future."
Looking ahead, Beechwood CE Primary is excited to build on its green success. In September 2025, the school will expand its provision with a brand-new nursery on the Beechwood Road site, further enhancing opportunities for young learners to engage with the natural world.
