The Volunteer Appreciation Day took place in celebration of Volunteer Appreciation Week and included displays of material from the archive collection that had been worked on by volunteers during the last year. Refreshments were available, and each volunteer was presented with a thank you certificate.

“They are an invaluable part of our team,” said Archivist Hannah Clynes. “Some of them clean, re-package, box list, catalogue, transcribe and index our collections, whilst others assist with record digitisation – including scanning, photographing and working on our oral history projects.

“Our “buddies” help customers with their family history research, using resources like Ancestry and FindMyPast, and we have a Friends group who are always willing to give us a hand.

“They are amazing people and we’re hugely grateful for all that they do.”

Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the staff-owned charitable social enterprise that runs Dudley Libraries and the Archive Centre on behalf of the council.

“The support we get from our volunteers is fantastic and we never take it for granted,” said Dudley Libraries Partnership Manager Stephanie Rhoden.

“I’m delighted 23 of them got together on the day and would like to add my sincere thanks for their role in making the Archives Service such an important community resource.”
