Wolverhampton community hero turns 70 and gives back in a big way

Celebrating a milestone birthday often means receiving gifts, but for Stephen Scott, giving was the greatest gift of all. Stephen, a new member of the Have A Heart Wolverhampton, recently marked his 70th birthday with an extraordinary act of generosity.

Instead of presents, he asked friends and family to make donations to Wolverhampton Coronary Aftercare Support Group (WCASG), Wolverhampton's only heart charity in honour of both his birthday and the group’s remarkable 40th anniversary. His selfless gesture raised an incredible £901, which has gone directly to benefit the group’s vital work.

Thanks to Stephen’s fundraising efforts, WCASG was able to replace one of the rowing machines in the rehabilitation circuit room at Have A Heart Wolverhampton, equipment that is essential to supporting the rehabilitation and fitness of its members recovering from heart-related conditions.

“Stephen has always been a dedicated member of our community, working at New Cross Hospital for many years” said a spokesperson for WCASG. “His decision to turn his birthday into a fundraiser reflects the true spirit of kindness and support that defines our group. The new rowing machine is already making a big difference in our sessions.”

Wolverhampton Coronary Aftercare Support Group has been supporting heart patients and their families since its founding in 1985. This year marks the group’s 40th anniversary, a testament to four decades of life-changing support, rehabilitation, and community connection.

All members and staff extend their heartfelt thanks to Stephen Scott for his continued support and generosity.

If you would like to support WCASG and help celebrate their 40th anniversary, please consider donating via their official fundraising page at JustGiving.com/wcasg.

Every donation helps keep hearts healthy and spirits strong.
