From combat to community: Former Wolverhampton Royal Marine launches youth project

Kelvin Davies recently left the Royal Marines after 12 years of service and is now back with his family in his hometown of Wolverhampton. He has set up his own Brazilian Jujitsu company called Reel Grappling, and alongside teaching adults classes, Kelvin is raising funds for a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community project (Combat to community), with an aim of providing free classes to young people in the area.

The community project aligns with the 'weapons down gloves up' project based in Liverpool that had coverage on the BBC in April, Kelvin took part with fellow Royal Marines and the Navy to team up with local youth groups to focus their attention on self defence rather than turning to crime.

Kelvin has setup a crowdfunding page to support his own community project. If anyone is able to donate towards roll out mats to enable the sessions to take place you could be making a difference to a young persons wellbeing. Every milestone of the target Kelvin reaches, will unlock a new challenge (more like a punishment) to keep interest building whilst he raises funds. The most recent vote being a 10 minute ice bath, filmed for social media. A marathon distance run in a Jujitsu Gi came in second!
