Wolves sign Tommy Rowe on a free transfer

[gallery]Tommy Rowe today became Wolves' first summer signing as Kenny Jackett pledged to play him in midfield.

The 25-year-old Peterborough captain has signed a two-year contract which will kick in when his Posh deal expires at the end of the month.

Rowe has played in central midfield but often as a left-back and left wing back in his five years at Posh.

Head coach Jackett said: "I view him mainly as a midfielder and hopefully he'll be able to settle in and be an excellent signing."

It's understood Wolves beat off competition from Leeds and Blackburn to land Rowe.

And the Manchester-born former Stockport man is already looking forward to a promotion challenge in the Championship.

"I'm delighted to have joined Wolves - as soon as I heard the club were interested I was very keen," he said.

"I'm looking forward to playing in the Championship again.

"A lot of teams will start the season thinking they have a good chance of promotion and we've got to give a good account of ourselves and hopefully we'll be amongst it.

"It's a good challenge and an exciting one."

Rowe added: "I'm really excited and can't wait to get started now.

"Having seen Wolves you can see why they won the league.

"They're a young side but also a composed side with experience at the right time.

"Everything about Wolves really appeals to me.

"The fact it's a big club, the fans, how well they did last season, it's an exciting prospect for me and exciting to be looking forward.

Wolves' head of development Kevin Thelwell is convinced Rowe's signing is another 'right fit'.

"It's a really good signing and is going to be a fantastic addition," said Thelwell.

"His attitude is very professional – he's very driven and very determined.

"Off the pitch he's going to fit in really well and he's going to move his family here which is always a really good indication.

"Not only do I think we've got the right player but the right person and hopefully the fans will see that.

"Tommy is a naturally left-footed player who's also versatile to the extent that I don't think you could pin him down to his best position.

"He's played at left back, wide left or on the left of centre midfield.

"Everyone we've talked to has spoken very highly of him and we think he's going to do really well."
