Wolves striker Sam Vokes admits this is the biggest chance he's going to get to prove himself capable of breaking into the club's Premier League team.

The Wales international starts the Carling Cup third round tie against Millwall tonight knowing that, with Steven Fletcher and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake injured, potentially a place at Anfield against Liverpool beckons.

Vokes said: "It's a massive chance for me to earn my big break. If I could get the goal that gets us through to the next round that would be great.

"I got 90 minutes and a goal against Northampton in the last round, so I'm looking forward to building on that.

"We've got a couple of injuries up front with Sylvan and Fletcher, so I'm looking to make an impression with scoring again and that would be fantastic in terms of me trying to get established.

"Anfield is the sort of ground I want to be playing in so that's what I'm looking to do – that's what this is about tonight for me."

With the injuries up front, the 21-year-old is one of only two fit senior forwards with Kevin Doyle, although Stephen Ward has proved a more than willing deputy.

And Vokes has dismissed any suggestion of more loan football.

He said: "I'm concentrating on working my backside off here to try to get involved. The Premier League is where everyone wants to be and that's what I'm aiming for – to get more chances here.

"If I can get my chance to play then hopefully I can prove my worth."

Vokes insisted 45 minutes in Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers was all the encouragement he needs from manager Mick McCarthy.

But the former Bournemouth target man admitted everyone wearing gold and black tonight has a point to prove after such a disappointing performance at the weekend.

He added: "If I can bring another dimension to the attack with my height and presence, then great."
