Ben Foster refuses England recall

Albion keeper Ben Foster today ruled himself out of Euro 2012 after rejecting a comeback plea from outgoing Baggies boss Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson officially began work as England manager today without Foster in his plans after Albion's newly-crowned player of the season opted to remain unavailable for his country.

"I've had a very good chat with the boss and he has told me of his plans," said Foster.

"But I've always said all along my best form has been since I retired from England. I feel my body gets a good rest, and I feel it needs that rest.

"It's not only that, it's the fact I've got a young family now and the family is very big with me.

"Roy tried hard to persuade me to change my mind. I get on with him so well and he is a fantastic manager.

"I know he will do a fantastic job for England but he understood my reasons and was very respectful."

Foster's season on loan at The Hawthorns ended yesterday as he sat out his first Premier League game of the season with a groin problem.

And the Birmingham man admitted his future is still uncertain, although he hinted he wants to remain in the Premier League.

"They are pretty similar clubs – family orientated and they look after you," he said.

Foster offered his support to Marton Fulop, whose errors handed Arsenal victory in the season finale.

"I feel for him but he will bounce back," Foster said.
