Adam Chambers: Walsall promotion is my only concern

The 35-year-old, who has enjoyed an outstanding season in a more withdrawn defensive midfield role, is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Chambers' form has seen him receive widespread acclaim from Saddlers fans, with many tipping him to win the club's player-of-the-year award if he maintains his impressive performances.

But Chambers, whose twin brother James retired last summer, says thoughts on his future are on hold to ensure he stays fully focused on helping Walsall reach the Championship.

"I don't know what is happening with that (new contract) but I am enjoying my time here," he said. "It's a great club and there are a lot of good people working here.

"I'm just focused on playing my football at the moment and doing everything I can to help the team be successful. We believe we have a great chance of winning promotion. Next season is a long time away so I'm just focused on the second half of the season."

Despite being in the twilight of his career, Chambers has featured in every one of Walsall's 33 games this season.

And the midfielder admits he is enjoying playing alongside Manchester City loanee George Evans, who last week extended his temporary spell at the Banks's to January 26.

"George has done tremendously well," Chambers said. "He has fitted right in on and off the pitch and is a really good lad.

"He gets on with everyone and on the pitch he gives us a lot. He has scored some vital goals for us but his all-round play helps knit the team together. It was good news for the squad that he extended his stay.

"We need a squad of players that all pushing each other to improve."

Meanwhile, Walsall have confirmed their League One fixture at Doncaster Rovers will now take place on Tuesday, February 2.
