England’s victory against India in the Women’s World Cup final at Lord’s seemed unlikely at one stage, but thanks to an incredible spell from Anya Shrubsole, it became a reality.

After England had set 229 to win, India set about chasing it down and looked comfortable for long periods of the game, reaching 191-3 with 7.2 overs left.

But that’s when Shrubsole turned on the style.

The wicket of India’s opener set in motion a domino effect…

… and 4.2 overs later, England were somehow just one wicket from victory, after four wickets and a run-out from the 25-year-old bowler.

With India requiring 10 runs to win, guess who got the all-important wicket.

Yes, Shrubsole’s outstanding figures of 6-46 earned her the Player of the Match award, and earned her country the World Cup.

It’s safe to say English cricket and English sport has a new legend – six wickets in a World Cup final surely earns comparisons with Geoff Hurst’s hat-trick in 1966?

Here are those figures at the close from Shrubsole.

She’s a star alright.

Here’s a picture posted by Anya’s father ahead of the final – a young Shrubsole visiting Lord’s 16 years ago.

Women’s World Cup? Completed it, mate.
