Roma have signed France midfielder Steven N’Zonzi from Sevilla on a four-year deal.

N’Zonzi, who was part of the victorious France squad at this summer’s World Cup in Russia, moves to the Italian capital for an initial 26.65million euros (£23million), which could potentially rise by four million euros.

The 29-year-old told the club’s official website: “I feel very happy to be here, and to be a new Roma player.

“I always want to improve – regardless of age, the most important thing is to give your best and work hard.

“I want to do that, to become a better player and help the team with my play and experience.”

N’Zonzi spent six years in English football, first with Blackburn, who brought him in from French club Amiens in 2009, and then Stoke.

The central midfielder had been heavily linked with a return to France, where Paris St Germain and Monaco were reportedly interested.

Eusebio Di Francesco’s side finished third in Serie A last season and reached the Champions League semi-finals, launching a remarkable quarter-final comeback against Barcelona before being knocked out by Liverpool.
