5 of Ben Stokes’ best international performances
The all-rounder has had plentiful stand out moments in his England career.
Ben Stokes will almost certainly return to England colours for the first time since last September during the forthcoming one-day international series against New Zealand.
Here, Press Association Sport looks at five of the all-rounder’s best international performances:
Australia, Perth 2013
New Zealand, Lord’s 2015
South Africa, Cape Town 2016
Now very much a mainstay in England’s set-up, Stokes lit up Newlands with a highly audacious 258 from 198 deliveries that featured no little belligerence and left a slew of milestones in his wake, including the top score by a Test number six and the English record for the number of sixes in an innings after clearing the rope 11 times. His 399-run stand with Jonny Bairstow was the highest sixth-wicket stand in Test history as the pair rescued England from a tricky position in a match which eventually petered out into a high-scoring draw.
Bangladesh, Chittagong 2016
Australia, Edgbaston 2017
Stokes’ ODI career has surprisingly not been littered with the highlights and unforgettable moments that he has produced in Tests – and it was not until his 45th match, five years after his debut, that he registered his first hundred – but he is still a fulcrum for England and his 102 not out conspired to send Australia crashing out of the Champions Trophy. Stokes crunched 13 fours and two maximums as he and Eoin Morgan broke the back of a chase that raised hopes England could go all the way on home soil, until they came a cropper against Pakistan in the semi-final.
