Mainz boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win away to Hertha Berlin.

Mainz, third from bottom in the Bundesliga, moved six points clear of the automatic relegation places thanks to two goals from Robin Quaison.

Victory ended a run of four-straight defeats in all competitions for the visitors.

Hertha suffered a blow when captain Vedad Ibisevic was forced off after only 16 minutes with an apparent broken nose.

And Swedish forward Quaison opened the scoring in the 40th minute, neat footwork on the edge of the area allowing him to create space for a shot, which he fired low inside the left post.

His second goal in the 65th minute was also expertly taken as he ran on to a long ball into the inside left channel, took a touch to set himself and then stabbed his finish past goalkeeper Rune Jarstein.

Defeat for mid-table Hertha means they are now without a win in their last four league games.
