Wolves sign Broc Nichol with Becker set to follow

American ace Broc Nicol will follow in famous footsteps when he rides for Wolverhampton next season.

Nicol has signed for the Monmore Green club and he is expected to be joined by fellow countryman Luke Becker.

And that means Parrys International Wolves will track two of the most promising riders from across the pond.

Club owner Chris Van Straaten says it’s high time he had the stars and stripes influence back.

He said: “Everybody talks about our great partnership from days gone by with Sam Ermolenko and Ronnie Correy, and of course down the road at Cradley we had to contend with Greg Hancock and Billy Hamill.

“Having felt the brunt of Hancock and Hamill many times it’s fantastic for us to have the prospect of tracking the two brightest talents coming out of the USA right now.

“We don’t anticipate any problems with the signing of Luke and it’s an exciting time for the club.”

Nicol completed the formality of gaining his visa for Premiership racing earlier this week and is thrilled to be heading to Monmore.

“Joining a club like Wolverhampton is a great move for me at this stage of my career,” he said.

“When they approached me I didn’t take long in sorting a deal out.

“I’ve ridden the track a couple of times before and it’s a track I like. I guess it’s the typical American type track in the league and hopefully I can get dialled in quickly and start scoring some big points.

“I know I’m joining a great club with tradition in England and hopefully I can follow in the footsteps of riders like Ermolenko, Correy and Hamill who have all ridden for the club.

“It will work well for me having that extra club to focus on next season and being able to spend more time on the bike which I think I need now.

“I want to take my career in Europe to that next level and have a solid season and hopefully with Wolves we can challenge for honours.

“Their fans are always getting behind their riders which is good. Hopefully we can repay them with a league title.

“That would be the dream debut season for me but I know there will be a lot of hard work to be done to achieve that goal.”

Wolves’ Speedway Office at Monmore Green will be open for 2020 season ticket applications this Saturday (November 30) between 9.30 and 2.30.
