Harry McGurk absent from Cradley Heathens

Cradley are without talented reserve Harry McGurk for their trip to Leicester on Tuesday – because he won’t make it in time after school!

McGurk, 15, is back in the classroom after the six-week summer break and will sit out the trip to the high-flying Lion Cubs.

Anchor Logistics Heathens bosses are currently working on a replacement as they enter the closing stages of their league campaign.

Club co-boss Nigel Pearson said: “It makes us all feel old when we have Harry missing because of school!

“He’s done well for us this season and people must remember these boys, a lot of them, are youngsters giving it their all.

“It’s a tall order at Leicester and I hope the boys keep their chin up after the defeat at Belle Vue. It hurts pride but I don’t want them to lose faith in their ability and chasing their dream of becoming successful riders.

“On behalf of our manager Will Pottinger and the rest of the management team we want to say a sincere thanks to those fans who back these boys. It’s appreciated.”

Heathens head to Plymouth on Friday before two successive Monday home meetings – which could be their last of the season.

They face Kent next Monday, September 9, in the final league fixture and then Belle Vue the following week, September 16, in the Cup semi-final.

If they lose their cup tie over two legs their season is likely to end on September 18 in Manchester wit question marks over whether the Golden Hammer will be staged.
