Wolverhampton Wolves opener washed out

Wolverhampton youngster Luke Becker says not even the British weather can dampen his spirits.

The American debutant was left on a high after an unforgettable first ride in front of his new fans – before Parrys International Wolves’ opener was washed out with just two races gone following a torrential downpour over Monmore Green.

Becker had pulled off a classy cutback underneath Peterborough’s Ben Barker down the home straight to join team-mate Ashley Morris out front as Wolves made it two maximums out of two following a 5-1 from Sam Masters and Kyle Howarth in the first.

And despite last night’s result not standing, Becker says it’s a moment he’ll never forget.

“To go out there and get a 5-1 in my first ever race at Wolves was amazing,” Becker said. “I felt like it was a good ride as well because I had to make the pass and then hold him off again as he came back at me – it’s just a shame it won’t stand. It was still good for me to get a ride out of the way in front of my new fans though; it helped me get rid of those nerves.”

Wolves will now launch their campaign with Premiership Supporters’ Cup action at Peterborough on Thursday (7.30pm).

They then head to Edinburgh for a challenge fixture on Friday before getting their league programme underway at Monmore next Monday against Swindon in a repeat of the 2017 Grand Final.
