Wolverhampton Wolves chief hails return of big guns
Wolverhampton have given the thumbs up to the return of big clubs Peterborough and Ipswich to Premiership racing next season.
And Parrys International Wolves bosses have revealed they will be hosting a minimum of 15 meetings at Monmore as they look to reclaim a place in the play-offs and a shot at another top-flight title.
Club owner Chris Van Straaten said: “We’ve had some really exciting battles with both Peterborough and Ipswich down the years.
“Nobody will ever forget that dramatic run-off for a place in the Grand Final when we faced Ipswich at Monmore in front of a packed crowd and Mikael Max just held off Hans Andersen.
“I’m disappointed to see Leicester and Somerset drop down.
“We enjoyed our trips down the M5 to Somerset but both clubs have to do what they believe is right in their best interests.”
And Van Straaten has admitted his phone has already been busy with riders keen on joining the club.
“It happens at this time every year,” he said.
“I’ve got text messages from various riders saying how much they would love to ride for us – but they probably sent the same text to every club!”
Van Straaten and co-promoter Peter Adams will expand on their views and give more insight from the British Speedway AGM when the club hold their winter talk-in at the Cleveland Arms Sports Pub, Stow Heath Lane, Wolverhampton on Monday.
