Track Talk: Woffy’s lead looks too much for Fast Freddie

It’s Grand Prix time again tonight as we go into the second half of the season.

I’m writing this column from my hotel in Hultsfred, Sweden – about eight miles from Malilla where tonight’s meeting takes place.

Dackarna are the home club who race here in the Swedish Elite League and there are three SGP riders who race for them.

I fancy Maciej Janowski to go well tonight. The former Poole man has hit some fine form and he’s a home favourite so I’ll stick my neck on the line and go with him for the win.

So what about series leader, Wolverhampton asset and fans’ favourite Tai Woffinden? He’s got a 20 point lead over former Wolves colleague Freddie Lindgren.

Can you believe it was only 2016 when these two teamed up and took Wolves to title glory?

Woffinden will do well and, realistically, with five rounds to go I think regular semi-final appearances from here on in will be enough for a third world title.

He can achieve that tonight, even if Lindgren closes the gap in the championship. 20 points is quite some lead to throw away!

Monday night is a big night at Monmore Green as Cradley stage their Golden Hammer Individual meeting in association with Dudley Stroke Association.

The Hammer always pulls in a fine line-up and this year is no different.

I’m looking forward to seeing Cradley lads Drew Kemp, Jason Edwards, Alfie Bowtell and Ellis Perks doing battle with former favourites Max Clegg, Danny Ayres and Danny Phillips.

Birmingham’s Tom Bacon had a stormer at Monmore when Heathens beat the Brummies last month and a similar display will put him in contention.

Kids go free for this meeting and the race jackets will be signed by the riders and available at the track shop after the meeting.

Wolverhampton head to King’s Lynn on Monday in desperate need of away points to cling on to play-off hopes.

The Stars had a fine week with two wins against Belle Vue and their recent signing of Erik Riss was a masterstroke.

This will be a tough one for Parrys International Wolves, who need to score well from top to bottom.
